Parade opens tourism festival

Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong opened the 2019 Shanghai Tourism Festival on Saturday, with a parade of 25 floats on Huaihai Road M.


A float representing Yuexi County in east China's Anhui Province displayed its mountainous landscape and tea culture, while a float from Shanghai's suburban Fengxian District showcased a picturesque scene of peach blossoms and traditional houses with white walls and black roof tiles.






A float from Kashgar in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region featured a blend of Eastern and Western civilizations from the days of the ancient Silk Road, and the float of Wanzhou in southwest China's Chongqing presented the views of its waterfall, riverfront, lakes and bell tower.


Zunyi City in southwest China's Guizhou Province used its float to showcase itself as a destination of patriotic significance.


Neighboring Zhejiang Province's Lishui City, offered a scene of green mountains and clear water. It also highlighted the city's culture of porcelain and stone carving.



Shanghai Disney Resort's float featured characters such as Duffy and ShellieMay.


The float of the Chongming Island showed peonies and narcissus which the island is known for, promoting the 10th China Flower Expo to be held there in 2021.


The parade also amazed audiences with performances such as An'sai waist drum and Hawaiian dance.


Performers from countries including New Zealand, Germany and Mexico brought spectacular performances in the parade.



The floats will tour districts across Shanghai from Sunday, with stops such as Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall and Hongkou Football Stadium.


From September 29 to October 6, they will be at the Yuehu Sculpture Park in Songjiang District. .


This year's Shanghai Tourism Festival will run through October 6.
