Pudong celebrating with a splash of colors

Four large floral displays in the Pudong New Area will add color to the upcoming National Day holiday and the second China International Import Expo.


A flower landscape in Lujiazui will be themed on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Covering about 1,800 square meters, it features flowers such as bougainvillea and primroses and will be lit up at night.


At the exit of S1 Huaxia elevated road which leads to Pudong International Airport, a huge display will feature peonies and magnolia, representing Shanghai.


The "Golden Times" display at Shayan Square on Century Avenue will cover about 1,500 square meters with a water ripple effect and it is comprised of pink azalea, Chinese flowering crabapple and marigolds.


At the intersection of Expo Avenue and Shangnan Road, a 500-square-meter exhibit showcases flower lanterns, and draws inspiration from lantern paper cuts through peony, Chinese flowering crabapple, iris and marigolds.


Autumn flowers will be used in about 91,000 square meters of flower beds and landscapes across Pudong, greenery authorities said.

Sanitation workers in Pudong are geared up to ensure a superb environment.


On the 1.5-kilometer riverfront of Binjiang Avenue from Lujiazui Road W. to Pudong Road S., the number of sanitation workers will be increased to 64 from October 10 for the CIIE from the current 34.


The goal is to that any trash will be removed within 10 minutes, with no dust on guardrails and benches.


Every sanitation worker has more than 20 tools to tackle all types of garbage.

"Trash inside greenery can be difficult to reach, and these tools help a lot," said Huang Xinsheng, a sanitation worker who uses a special blade to remove chewing gum.


Small vehicles have also been used to clean long-time dirt in gaps in walls of road surfaces.


"I am happy when hearing people say that 'the environment here is so pleasant,'"said Huang.
