All systems Jazz at Fuxing fest

Riders prepare for a cycle event in Hengfu Historical Conservation Zone on Sunday. 


As part of the 2019 Shanghai Tourism Festival, the 2019 Fuxing Art Festival kicked off in Xuhui District over the weekend with jazz music and street art under the plane trees.


The Hengfu (Hengshan and Fuxing roads) area features a cluster of beautiful old villas, plane-lined sidewalks, chic cafes and restaurants as well as a tranquil and a laid-back lifestyle.


The festival opened on Sunday with a jazz trio at Hengshan Fang, residences built in 1934 shaded with lush plane trees and brick-and-wood garden villas built in 1948.


A cycling event to the villa of translator Cao Ying (1923-2015) and the former residence of playwright Xia Yan (1900-1995) was hosted on Sunday afternoon as well.


On September 21 and 28, jazz performances will be in the historical conservation zone.


An exhibition "Deep Blue: A Tribute to TARA" will begin at Yong Ping Lane on September 22, with a talk on jazz music, including a jazz trio, on September 20 at 811 Hengshan Road, the former offices of Electric and Musical Industries Ltd.


Many of China's most popular singers such as Zhou Xuan and Li Xianglan have made recordings in the building.


On October 6, Jasmine Chen, one of the most popular jazz singers in China will give a concert at Wukang Road tourist information center.


A cycling tour of Hengfu Historical Conservation Zone will be held on the same day.


The festival ends on October 6.
