Work begins on Lingang culture complex

A cultural center will open in 2021 in Lingang, on the coast of the Pudong New Area.

Construction of the complex, including a library, theater and an exhibition hall, started yesterday. It will bring more cultural services to the emerging community of Lingang where many people have moved to work in the smart manufacturing business.

The 15,000-square-meter complex will have eight floors.

The first and the second will house a 400-seat theater, where at least 20 shows will be staged each year.

The third and fourth floors will have a multifunction hall where at least 800 cultural events, including lectures and classes, will be held each year.

A 5,000-square-meter library, described as the most beautiful in Shanghai, will occupy the fifth, sixth and seventh floors. It will hold about 400,000 books, mainly on science and technology.

A hall on the eighth floor will host at least 12 professional exhibitions each year.

The complex is part of the ongoing construction of the Harbor City Plaza that started in 2015.
