Digital health giant introduces AI services in China

TPP, a UK-based digital health company which develops healthcare software and handles over 40 million patient records in its home country, is ready to take over its first 6 million in Shanghai.

Witnessed by government officials from the UK and China, the company signed an agreement with a Shanghai-based company on Tuesday at the China International Import Expo to introduce AI-based personal health management services for Chinese people.

Dr Hui-Chi Yeh, TPP's director, said users of an app developed by the company with its Chinese partner can view their records on their phone, and their health data cab be analyzed using AI technology and medical solutions offered.

“Our first project will cover six million people in Shanghai and hopefully we’ll later roll it out to the whole of China,” she said.

Yeh said the company will cooperate with clinics in different sectors including elderly care, community health centers and hospitals.

Shanghai is where the company's national data center is located.

“China is developing fast and even past the UK, but its primary care can be better,” said Frank Hester, founder and CEO of TPP. “For us this is the opportunity for improvement, and we have more years of experience from the UK.”

Hester said a major challenge is prevention and early detection of disease, and AI with big data can help with that.

TPP also signed an agreement with another Chinese company to develop a smart integrated care platform across Hainan. The platform will connect primary, community, secondary and elderly care services across the province for the first time.
