A “Dress Rehearsal” of China International Import Expo A Total-Factor Practice Covering 15 Aspects

During the National Day holiday, the National Exhibition and Convention Center, NECC (Shanghai), was filled with a particularly hectic atmosphere:

China International Import Expo is approaching. To ensure its success, according to the Preparatory Committee’s unified arrangement, the community of practice planned exercises at three levels, i.e. step-by-step practice, desktop maneuver and full-scale exercise, hoping the exercises could comprehensively check the preparation for the import expo and improve the level of service.

Since August, the Import Expo Bureau and National Exhibition and Convention Center’s internal departments have carried out over 60 small exercises. In September, relevant organizations of Shanghai and NECC (Shanghai) jointly finished nearly 10 large special exercises, including fire control, interruption of water/power/gas supply, anti-terrorism and performing task of emergency, food and health, etc. and organized a comprehensive urban security drilling. In late September, NECC (Shanghai), the Import Expo Bureau and relevant departments again had two desktop maneuvers and had the “China International Import Expo Manual for On-site Practice” prepared.

Today’s exercises simulated the event on Nov. 5 in chronological order. It covered various steps on the opening ceremony day. Today's exercises also involved relevant conference arrangement and on-site services on Nov. 6, as well as emergency disposal in the venue.

“As China International Import Expo approaches, this ‘Dress Rehearsal’ tested the effectiveness of such import expo’s command system. It is helpful for improving emergency response and synthesized interaction, clarifying post responsibilities and improving on-site service.” According to the exercises organizer, in October there will be a large exhibition in the National Exhibition and Convention Center. They will remedy the shortfalls in multilingual services, volunteer organization and the construction of a venue patrol technical-support team, so as to ensure absolute safety during the import expo.
